The 13th China National Winter Games has concluded with a remarkable outdoor ceremony at the Silk Road ski resort in Xinjiang’s capital of Urumqi on Saturday, Jan. 30, which is said to be one of the country’s efforts to drum up interest to the venue in connection to Beijing’s hosting of the 2022 Winter Olympics.

Chinese world speed skating champion Zhang Hong had won three gold medals in the ongoing 13th China National Winter Games, but she missed her pre-announced target of breaking the world record in the 1000 meter event.

Popular Chinese freestyle skier Zhang Xin won the first gold medal of the 13th China National Winter Games for the host team of Xinjiang following her final round victory in the Women’s Aerial Freestyle Skiing event on Jan. 21.
