German luxury car maker BMW is planning to launch self-driving vehicles by 2021 in China, according to Maximilian Doemling, BMW's senior manager, during a summit on artificial intelligence and robotics in Shenzhen, China.

BMW's 1 Series Sedan will be sold exclusively in China where it will target other premium compact sedans such as the Audi A3 and Mercedes-Benz CLA.

German luxury car manufacturer BMW AG announced on May 2 that the company's BMW iVentures, its venture capital arm, will be investing in California-based startup Scoop Technologies, a company that offers smartphone-powered carpooling service. The exact terms of the deal were not disclosed.
