Brazil's president Dilma Rousseff was impeached by the Senate following an epic debate in the chamber until overnight.

Ms Rousseff, a left-wing economist who was captured and tormented under military guideline, was re-chosen by a restricted edge in a run-off vote. In her inaugural speech, Ms Rousseff, 67, promised to expand social welfare programs that have lifted millions out of destitution. Ms Rousseff won 51.6% of the vote in October, beating focus right competitor Aecio Neves, who took 48.4%.

The new development bank set up by the emerging-market bloc of BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South America) is not going against the existing western-backed International Monetary Fund (IMF), said Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff.
