‘Mind your own Business’ Chinese Media Warns India Over Ties with Nepal and Sri Lanka

China's state owned tabloid The Global Times has warned India of 'retaliatory actions' if it continues to undermine Beijing's growing ties with Nepal and Sri Lanka. The warning has come amid China's defence minister's ongoing visit to Sri Lanka and Nepal.

Sri Lanka signed an agreement in principle on Thursday to sell at least 80 percent of its deep-water port on the country's southern coast, near the world's busiest sea lanes, to a Chinese state-backed firm, according to The Wall Street Journal citing senior officials.

Sri Lanka is set to sell an 80 percent stake of its Hambantota port in its south to a Chinese company, an attempt to cut its debt burden, Ravi Karunanayake, the country's finance minister, said.

China has requested 15,000 acres of land in Southern Sri Lanka to create a Special Economic Zone (SEZ), Sri Lankan newspaper Daily Times reported.

Sri Lanka has granted permission to Chinese company 'China Communications Construction' to build a vast "port city" in the island's capital city of Colombo after the project was suspended by Sri Lanka's President Maithripala Sirisena last year.
