China, Pakistan Launch Direct Rail and Sea Freight Service to Enhance Economic Cooperation

China and Pakistan opened a new chapter in their diplomatic relationship on Thursday by launching a direct rail and sea freight service between them. The service was unveiled with first cargo train departing from China's southwest Yunnan province for Pakistan's Karachi city.

It appears that China is in no mood to put a break on its investment drive in Pakistan. A leading Pakistani minister has confirmed that the Chinese government would invest $8.5 billion in the region. This is in addition to the $46-billion that has already been committed for the ambitious China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project.
