The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced on Thursday that it is pursuing Fiat Chrysler for allegations of illegally installing secret defeat software that allowed more than 100,000 of the automakers diesel vehicles to emit harmful substances way above the legally allowed levels.

Japanese car maker Mitsubishi Motors Corp. has acknowledged that it has been falsifying its fuel economy tests since 1991.

Volkswagen has been in the center of public scrutiny and outcry following the discovery that the company cheated on some of its emission test results. The German automaker released a statement on Wednesday claiming that the emission test result mishapp twas not as huge as it was originally anticipated.
