Chinese Judiciary Wants Stiffer Punishment for People Who Sell Unsafe Food

China's Supreme Court issued a written announcement on Wednesday stating that it will impose stiffer punishment for anyone who manufacture and sell food products that are unfit for human consumption starting October 1 of this year. The stern warning is meant to discourage erring businessmen from sacrificing their customers' health for profit.

Food Safety scandal, which is the most common controversy in China today, has sparked apprehension in every citizen's food preference. Since the government's repeated pleas in the change of regulation in the food industry, a committee in the State Council was created to alleviate a solution to this problem. Though the Chinese government reassures the people that more than 99 percent of its goods achieved safety and quality, this sparked a speculation of the discrepancy between local and foreign markets, according to Slate.
