In its latest decree against Hong Kong's pro-independent protestors, Beijing has warned that it won't allow anyone to use the semi-autonomous city to use as a base for subversion activities against mainland China.

China on Tuesday cautioned relevant countries not to offer any support to forces advocating "Hong Kong independence" movement. The warning comes amid growing protests across the semi-autonomous city against the Chinese government following the oath-taking ceremony controversy.

A number of pro-independent Hong Kong citizens have started placing stickers on top of their passports to hide the Communist China emblem. The idea was inspired by some Taiwanese who did the same with their passport to show their support for an independent Taiwan.

Lord Charles Powell, a former aide to late British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, on Sunday said Hong Kong enjoys autonomy far greater than what was expected when the UK negotiated the special administrative region's return to Chinese rule in 1997.
