South Africa has laws limiting its citizens from in-depth involvement in conflicts it is not directly involved in and may prosecute a few individuals found to be working for the Israeli Defense Force.

Israel withdrew its military forces from Gaza after they achieved their goal of destroying the tunnels of the Hamas militants and just before the Egyptian-brokered ceasefire began at 8:00 am local time (0500 GMT).

Israeli jets continued to bomb targets in Gaza Thursday, as the death toll mounts inside Palestinian territory. Since the aerial attacks started Monday, 81 Palestinians have been reported killed, while more that 500 have been injured according to Palestinian reports.
