$9 Billion Deal to Bring Tesla Factory to China

New reports claim that American automotive and energy storage company Tesla Motors has agreed to a non-binding agreement with the Chinese state-owned company Jinqiao Group. It is believed that Tesla will give the rights to Jinqiao Group to construct a production plant in the Chinese city of Shanghai.

American electric car maker Tesla Motors is planning to invest close to $9 billion to set up a manufacturing base in Shanghai city, a person familiar with the matter said.

Tesla Motors Inc. is reported to have signed a non-binding agreement with Jinqiao Group to set up a production base in Shanghai. According to a Bloomberg report, the investment is worth $9 billion. Both Tesla and Jinqiao Group, a Shanghai-based state-owned company, will invest $4.5 billion (30 billion yuan) each. Jinqiao's share is likely to be in the form of land.
