Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), which is likely to be voted into power in elections next month, is open to improving ties with China, a senior party member said Friday.

Reflecting Taiwan's new political reality, a high-powered mainland delegation including Alibaba's Jack Ma visiting this week beginning Tuesday was expected to receive an underwhelming welcome, according to island officials and analysts. Ma, a former Chinese commerce minister, was leading a delegate of top mainland officials and business leaders on an eight-day visit to Taiwan.
