Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko called an urgent meeting with his security chiefs in Kiev after news of the pro-Russian separatists' election over the weekend broke out, and deployed troops all over the country to defend the cities still under their control.

Residents of eastern Ukraine, who are mostly pro-Russian separatists, have cast their votes as they chose their leaders on Sunday fueling their conflict with the Ukrainian government and pushing their plans of having an independent region.
