Irish UN peacekeepers will adhere to the rotation schedules in the disputed Golan Heights despite rebel clashes and targeting of UN soldiers in the area, Defense Minister Simon Coveney said on Tuesday.

The chief of the Philippines' armed forces is asking the United Nations to investigate the actions and decisions of indian Army General Iqbal Singh Singha, commander U.N. Disengagement ObserverForce (UNDOF) in the Golan Heights, after the latter ordered Filipino peacekeepers to raise the white flag and surrender their firearms to Syrian rebels.

Filipino UN soldiers guarding the Golan Heights remain defiant despite being surrounded by Syrian rebels demanding to surrender their weapons. Seventy-five UN peacekeepers from the Philippines are ready to fight back in the event that Al-Nusra Front initiates attack on the Syrian-Israeli border, an official from the Philippine Constabulary said.
