China Lambasts Japan for Intervening in South China Sea Row

China on Monday lambasted Japan following a recent announcement that Tokyo will step up its presence in the South China Sea. Beijing said such actions, in the pretense of upholding the interests of the international community, would only lead to further confusion in the disputed region.

Japan's decision to participate in joint patrols with the United States in the contested South China Sea is a ploy by Tokyo to gain a "bargaining chip" in its dispute with China over the Senkaku Islands (Diaoyu Islands in China) in the East China Sea, China's state-run news agency Xinhua said on Saturday.
