The National Meteorological Center of China on Wednesday released a weather alert signalling possible snowstorms in the southern part of the country and a significant temperature drop of 14 degrees Celcius -- with temperatures hitting 30 years low in cities like Shanghai and Changsha.

The municipal government of Beijing is planning to impose a set of vehicle restrictions to fight air pollution. The restrictions are expected to be imposed for the rest of the winter season as pollution is forecasted get worse due to additional demands on power plants to supply electricity for heating.
