AFC Champions League quarterfinalists Shandong Luneng Taishan FC settled for a 1-1 tie with bottom-dwelling squad Changchun Yatai FC last Saturday in a 2016 Chinese Super League match at their home ground of Jinan Olympic Sports Center Stadium.

It was the third straight unbeaten performance for last season's third-place finishers as they remained at the 12th spot of the current China top flight table. Shandong Luneng defeated Guangzhou R&F and Tianjin Teda in their previous two games before this draw with Changchun.

Argentine midfielder Walter Montillo broke the game's deadlock at the 13th minute from a cross by local left winger Liu Binbin to give head coach Felix Magath's side the first lead of the contest, as per Soccerway.

Taishan Dui managed to bring the one-point lead at the halftime break. However, Changchun found the game's equalizer five minutes into the second half with a goal from Croatian attacking midfielder Mislav Orsic off a pass from Brazilian forward Bruno Meneghel.

Both sides went scoreless after that and settled for the draw which gave each one a point in the overall standings.

The draw was the second consecutive unbeaten game for Changchun as they tied with Shijiazhuang Ever Bright in the standings with 20 point each. The two clubs are currently occupying the bottom two spots of the 16-team league table, which are bound for relegation to the China League One if they will not be able to get out.

Hangzhou Greentown, presently sitting at 14th place in the standings, is six points above Changchun and Shijiazhuang with six games left in this season's campaign.

Meanwhile, Shandong is set to face K League Classic club FC Seoul on Wednesday to determine who will advance in the semifinals of the 2016 AFC Champions League, Yonhap News reported.

Montillo, who was also Magath's lone scorer in their first leg encounter with Seoul on Aug. 24, will again be relied upon to bring the goals in this second leg meeting. Italian striker Graziano Pellè and Senegalese forward Papiss Cissé will also be available to reinforce the home squad.

Shandong will need a big win in order to advance as they lost 1-3 to Seoul during the first leg.
