China's two-time Olympic gold medal winning diver Shi Tingmao has returned to her hometown Chongqing, not just only to regain her strength after the grueling training and Olympic competition, but above all, for a family reunion.

Shi, 25, attended a ceremony in Chongqing on Wednesday morning. The humble Chinese athlete credited her successful Olympic campaign to both her family and her team.

"I could not have endured that much pain without my team and my family," Shi said.

According to Xinhua, the traditional Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival, which falls on Thursday, September 15, is commonly celebrated by families reuniting under the full moon and eating mooncakes. The Chinese festival represents one of the most essential values for Chinese people: "familial togetherness."

So it is no surprise that the multi-title Chinese diver looks forward to being with her family during the upcoming three-day festival. Shi said that her Olympic gold medals are the best present that she can hope to offer to her family.

"I will spend time with my parents, relaxing and recuperating," the Olympic athlete says.

According to Sina, Shi began gymnastics training at the young age of five. However, she was chosen by a coach of a local diving team when turned eight and has since concentrated on the high board discipline.

Despite suffering from back pain due to extended hours of intensive training scheme, Shi will compete in the National Games next year.

At the recently concluded Rio Games, Shi won gold in both the women's 3m synchronized final and the 3m springboard final with Wu Minxia.
