Hu Jinqiu led the Chinese team to their fourth victory in five games with a remarkable double-double performance of 24 points and 11 rebounds, along with three assists and one blocked shot.
The 18-year-old Chinese player went 7 for 9 from the field and made a perfect 10 for 10 from the foul line in 34.47 minutes on the hard wood. Guard Cui Jinming and forward Liu Zhixuan contributed 14 points and 12 points respectively for the winners, who will next face Iraq in the quarterfinal rounds in the Azadi Basketball Hall.
The Iraqis routed the winless national team of Thailand with a 102-69 triumph in their last game in the second round to finish fourth in Group F with two victories and three defeats.
With the victory, China ends as the leading squad in Group F, edging Jordan, Chinese Taipei, and India on the table. This means that the Chinese team would avoid facing South Korea and host Iran in the next stage.
China entered the second half of the game with a slim one-point lead 49-48 but staged a 21-15 run in the third frame to establish a six-point advantage 70-63 going into the final ten minutes of the game.
In the fourth period of the match, the Chinese Taipei team was able to put up a 25-23 run, but it was not enough to steal the game from China.
