Swimmer Zhang Li Wins Again as China Claims More Gold at Rio Paralympics

Elite Chinese Paralympic swimmer Zhang Li has claimed her third gold medal in the ongoing swimming tournament at the Rio 2016 Paralympics by winning the final round of the 100-meter freestyle S5 event. China also claimed more gold in table tennis and athletics on Saturday.

According to Xinhua, Zhang, 18, registered an official time of one minute and 18.85 seconds to edge the current world record holder Teresa Perales of Spain by 1.62 ticks at the Olympic Aquatics Stadium in Rio de Janeiro. The Spaniard settled for the silver while Joana Maria Silva of the host country Brazil grabbed the bronze medal with a time of 1:23.21.
Zhang also won the top prize in the 50-meter freestyle S5 and the 200-meter freestyle S5.
In table tennis, China defeated Serbia in the championship round to win the gold medal on Saturday.
China's Gu Gai and Zhang Bian defeated Borislava Peric-Rankovic and Nada Matic in three straight sets 11-9, 11-2, 11-9 in the opening doubles match before the 30-year-old Zhang outclassed Peric-Rankovic with a 3-0 win (11-9, 11-6, 11-7) in their women's singles duel.
The national team of South Korea also got the better of Sweden 2-1 to claim the bronze medal of the event.
Meanwhile, Chinese athlete Dong Feixia won Marianne Buggenhagen of Germany to win the highest honor in the women's discuss F55 final round. The 27-year-old posted a season's best throw of 25.05 meters to defeat German athlete by 0.53m at the Olympic Stadium. Diana Dadzite of Latvia claimed bronze with 22.66m, according to Shanghai Daily.
With the victory, Dong captured her first Paralympic gold medal. She finished fourth-place in the same event at the 2008 Beijing Games.
"I've been waiting eight years for this, I'm very excited," she said.
