China has achieved the target it set before the Rio Paralympics to end the prestigious sporting event on top of the medal standings, extending the country's dominance at the Games.
China concluded the 11-day international event with 107 gold, 81 silver and 51 bronze medals won. With the haul, China has become the third country in the Paralympic Games' history to win 100 gold medals in a single edition of the highly-regarded quadrennial sporting competition for the athletes with disabilities.

The majority of the 308-strong Chinese national delegation got the better of other athletes during the tournament. China claimed 37 gold medals in swimming, followed by the athletics (32), table tennis (13), wheelchair fencing (9), shooting (5), powerlifting (3), archery (3), cycling (3), and judo (2).
Zhang Haidi, the head of the Chinese Paralympic delegation, said that the success of Chinese athletes at the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games reflects the country's efforts to provide support for athletes with disabilities.
"The medals of Chinese Paralympians come from the hard training of athletes and all of the society's care for people with disabilities," Zhang said. "Some people said that it is easy for China to win a medal, but behind the scenes our athletes have made a huge effort to get to the top level, even more than athletes without disabilities. We also have 17 sports training centers in China for people with disabilities."
The Rio Paralympic Games was the fourth-straight time that the Chinese athletes ruled the medal standings. According to Xinhua, China also finished on top of the Paralympics medal table in Athens, Beijing, and London.
In Rio, Great Britain ended in the second place winning 64 gold medals followed by Ukraine with Ukraine (41), the United States (40), and Australia (22).
Only the United States and Britain have been able to win gold medals at a single Paralympics. Both countries did so at the 1984 Games in New York City, when the US claimed 136 victories and Britain 107.
