Comic legend Stan Lee announced on Wednesday that he is introducing a new superhero called Monkey Monster, and this project will be co-produced by Chinese and Indian companies.
China's Shinework Pictures has teamed up with Lee's POW! Entertainment and Graphic India to start pre-production of the live-action film, according to Variety. India's Cinema Capital Advisory will also co-produce the project.

"I have always been fascinated by the Chinese and Indian cultures, which are so philosophical and rich in tradition and morality," Lee said. "I've written countless superheroes... but Monkey Monster will be unique in how it interweaves Chinese and Indian myth to create a hero that will entertain fans across the world with his martial arts skills and unstoppable superpowers."
Stan Lee will team up with Sharad Devarajan, co-founder and CEO of Graphic India. The filming of the project will start in the fourth quarter next year.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, although the film will target the Chinese market, it will also be developed to suit the taste of the international market. The cast of the movie will include talents from China, India, and other countries, while the shooting language would likely use English.
"We are excited to leverage Stan Lee's experience creating some of the worlds most popular superhero characters to create an epic Chinese superhero film that will not only appeal to China but also globally to international markets," Jonathan Shen, CEO of Shinework Pictures, said.
Devarajan hinted that the story of Monkey Monster "will take place between ancient and modern-day China and India as the myth of monkey warriors, known to both cultures, come together in the creation of a modern-day superhero."
