Gionee to Build Manufacturing Facility in India

Chinese smartphone manufacturer Gionee is expanding its reach and currently targets booming tech markets outside of its homeland.

Gionee recently announced that the company is investing $74 million to create a locally-based smartphone manufacturing facility in northern India.

According to Gionee, the planned smartphone manufacturing facility should be operational within the next two years. It was also confirmed that the Indian facility will manufacturer devices that will be sold to the Indian market.

The company is looking  on producing enough products in the Indian facility as well for distribution to neighboring Asian markets.

The planned 200,0000 square-meter Gionee facility will be established in the Indian province of Haryana located on the northern part of the region, as it surrounds the country's capital of New Delhi on three sides. 

According to Giz China, along with the construction of the new Gionee manufacturing facility, the company is likewise considering to enhance its current investments in India. The company is expecting to boost its annual production capacity to 30 million units, amounting to an investment of around $224 million.

Gionee debuted on the Indian tech market in 2013 and since then the company claimed that it was able to claim at least five percent of the current Indian smartphone market.

Currently, Gionee reveals that the company is enjoying a monthly average sales rate of 500,000 units.

With the construction of its new manufacturing facility in India, Gionee is optimistic that it will further boost its production rate in order to cover rising demands for reliable smartphone devices.
