Two heavy landslides have left at least 32 people missing in two villages in Zhejiang province, as Typhoon Megi continues to wreck havoc in the eastern China.

Non-stop typhoon rains in Sucun Village led to hordes of houses being swept away, leaving at least 26 people missing while 15 people have been rescued, according to Xinhua. A video shared by Xinhua on Weibo showed debris sliding down the mountain towards a small village

Chinese state media reported that another six people are missing in Baofeng village in Wencheng County, where typhoon rains have been equally destructive.

For several days, Typhoon Megi has brought life to a standstill in many parts of Taiwan and China. In Taiwan, the typhoon left four people dead and at least 625 injured before heading for mainland China.

Earlier on Wednesday, Typhoon Megi landed in China's southern province of Fujian. Authorities were forced to shut schools and call off dozens of flights as a precautionary measure. Nearly 120,000 people, who work close to shore, were also evacuated.

Critics allege that local government authorities have misallocated funds and failed to spend appropriately to preventing floods and other problems caused by incessant rains.

Typhoons are common in China and Taiwan during this time of the year. They pick up strength as they cross over warm Pacific waters and carry fierce winds and rains inland.
