Tesla Wants All of its Cars to be Fully Autonomous

Tesla recently announced that all of the company's upcoming cars will be installed with a hardware that will allow them to have "full self-driving capabilities."

The electric car manufacturer said this unique set of hardware will include eight cameras with 360-degree viewing angle and depth of up to 820 feet, and 12 ultrasonic sensors that detect both hard and soft objects. Tesla added that a new forward-facing radar that will allow its system to see through rain, dust or fog will be installed on its cars as well.

Tesla chief executive officer Elon Musk said in a statement, "The full autonomy update will be standard on all Tesla vehicles from here on out."

He shared that these features will be included in all of the new Tesla vehicles. However, some experts said new cars, such as the Mode X, will not be fully autonomous right out of the showroom. Tesla then noted that the company needs to "further calibrate the system using millions of miles of real-world driving," according to The Verge.

This could mean that Tesla is still on the process of road testing its computer systems and artificial intelligence networks, and it could take some time before an actual computer can fully take control of a car. While this seems discouraging for some, Tesla disclosed that it is making breakthroughs in its research and it will not be long before a full capable A.I. will be able to autonomous cars.

Optimistic as always, Musk promised that Tesla should be able to hold a demonstration of fully autonomous cars by the end of 2017.
