Two Chinese smartphone manufacturers are capitalizing on the ongoing decline of Apple's sales output in the Chinese smartphone market. International research firm IDC recently released a report showing that Oppo topped the Chinese smartphone market, closely followed by Vivo.
According to the IDC report, Oppo shipped 20.1 million units during the third quarter of 2016. This represents 17.5 percent market share, and a year-on-year growth of 106 percent.

During the same period in 2015, Oppo was sitting fourth, with just nine percent market share and a reported shipment of 9.8 million units.
In a statement acquired by ZDNet, IDC senior market analyst Xiaohan Tay said, "Oppo's success is not something that was achieved overnight."
"Back in the earlier years, when vendors depended on operator subsidy to grow, Oppo was clear in its direction and focused on expanding its offline channels," Tay added.
Vivo came second, shipping 19.2 million units, representing 16.7 percent market share.
In the third quarter of 2015, Vivo placed fifth, with just 8.8 percent market share or 9.5 million shipped units.
Meanwhile, American tech giant Apple was relegated to the fifth place, with 8.2 million shipments or 7.1 percent market share.
During the same quarter in 2015, Apple was in third place with 12.4 million shipments or 11.4 percent market share. This dive in sales output represented a negative 34.1 percent year-to-year growth.
Despite this massive drop in terms of market performance, IDC is positive that with the recent release of the iPhone 7, Apple should be able to poise itself for a rebound by fourth quarter of the year.
Amid this, could it be possible for Oppo to be dethroned as the top-performer in terms of sales in the Chinese smartphone market?
