Chinese smartphone giant Huawei recently announced the Mate 9 and the Porsche Design Mate 9 at a show in Munich, Germany.

Huawei also confirmed that the Mate 9 flagship smartphone will hit the United States market early in 2017, following the release in the Asian and European markets.

Just like the Huawei Ascend Mate 2, which was released about two years ago, the Huawei Mate 9 will be exclusively available through online purchase only, and is said to be slated for the high-end and premium market

To compete in this highly-competitive yet lucrative market, Huawei decided to cram every high-end component the company can get its hand on into the Mate 9.

At the heart of the Huawei Mate 9 is the company's own Kirin 960 chipset with an octa-core processor, according to ZDNet.

It has 4GB of memory and 64GB of storage space, which can be expanded using a microSD card. The phone has a 5.9-inch display with 1920 x 1080 resolution and 2.5D glass.

The Huawei Mate 9 smartphone is expected to run on the latest Android 7.0 Nougat mobile operating system with Huawei's own EMUI 5.0 custom skin on top.

The device is also anticipated to sport a 12-megapixel and 20-megapixel rear facing camera in dual configuration. The camera sensors are said to be provided by Leica. On the front panel, the phone has an 8-megapixel camera for selfie shots and video calls. The Mate 9 is expected to have a massive 4000mAh battery pack with support for fast charging technology.

Huawei has yet to announce the official price of the Mate 9 smartphone.
