Popular messaging platform WhatsApp has announced that it is rolling out an exclusive iPhone update that will allow users to share short videos, GIFs, and Live Photos. These functionalities are already available on other popular messaging platforms, hence WhatApp's decision to add it to its platform.

Aside from adding the new features, WhatsApp for iPhone will also come with a new GIF search engine, making it easy for users to look for specific GIFs. Users can share or create new GIFs through the build-it service like Tenor and Giphy, according to Mac Rumors.

There are reports that WhatsApp's GIF support will be made available for Android users as well, although the exact release date of the update was not provided.

Moreover, iPhone users of WhatsApp can now send videos up to six seconds long. Live Photos can also be shared as GIF animations. However, this feature is exclusive only to an iPhone 6s or iPhone 7 since 3D Touch is required to turn Live Photo files into a GIF animation, according to BGR.

WhatsApp for iOS also allows users to customize GIF files with emojis and texts. Users will also have the ability to trim down certain parts of the GIF as they want. For quick access purposes, iPhone users can now save GIF clips for easy access.

WhatsApp said that the update is made on its servers, which means that users can instantly use the new features without the need to update the app, provided that they are using the latest version of the app. WhatsApp can be downloaded on the Apple App Store. The latest build of the app is version 2.16.15.
