Microsoft released a firmware on Monday to patch a second battery issue that affects some Surface Pro 3 devices. Microsoft quietly released the update which aims to address the problem of some Surface Pro 3 devices that use the LGC battery pack.

Microsoft did not release an official announcement regarding the update. However, on Tuesday, a Microsoft Surface Team Forum moderator told users that Microsoft has released an update regarding the battery issue and that it is available through Windows Update, according to ZDNet.

Microsoft acknowledged the second battery problem affecting some Surface Pro 3 devices late in September. The acknowledgement came after Microsoft rolled out a firmware fix to address a different battery issue affecting selected Surface Pro 3 devices that use Simplo battery pack.

It appears that the two battery problems are somewhat similar. Surface Pro 3 users, with Simplo and LGC battery packs, reported that their devices experience extreme battery drain.

Microsoft said that it had received multiple complaints from Surface Pro 3 owners claiming that their devices do not charge and that some have diminished battery capacity. Microsoft said that the fix came in the form of a firmware update that "corrects the logic in the firmware component that functions as the 'fuel gauge' for the Surface Pro 3 battery, so that the actual battery capacity on devices with this particular part is accurately reported."

Microsoft added that once the firmware of affected Surface Pro 3 devices is updated, the full charging capacity will automatically correct itself over the next charge and discharge cycles, according to GSM Arena.
