AC Milan is reportedly targeting Leicester City forward Riyad Mahrez in January as the Italian Serie A club is short on wingers at the moment.

Mahrez, who has been off-form at this point of the season compared with his 17-goal, 11-assist performance last term, remains to be one of the most "in-demand" talents in world football right now after he was awarded the PFA Player of the Year in April, according to Metro.

Milan sporting director Massimiliano Mirabelli is said to be scouting Mahrez this season and is one of the main targets of the club to add to their roster.

Rossoneri is said to be keen on snatching the 22-year-old Algeria international from the Premier League champions when the winter window opens this January as head coach Vincenzo Montella's squad is lacking in attacking options right now.

Mahrez is a known playmaker that creates a lot of chances not only for himself but also for his teammates as well. He is one of the key players who helped Leicester City win their first-ever Premier League last season.

The 5-foot-10 French-born Algerian will team up with forwards Carlos Bacca, M'Baye Niang, Luiz Adriano, and Suso in Milan's forward line, who has managed to score only 19 goals so far this term, the lowest in the top five, despite currently placing in the third spot of the Italian top-flight table.

However, Goal reported that the Foxes are intending to keep Mahrez to their side and are prepared to "fend off interest from AC Milan" when the transfer window re-opens in the New Year.

Leicester has managed to ward off a mega-money approach from Premier League rivals Arsenal during the recent summer transfer window as the club re-signed Mahrez to a contract extension that continues up to 2020.

It looks like Foxes head coach Claudio Ranieri will be able to discourage this rumored offer once again this January as Mahrez is reportedly happy at the King Power Stadium.
