English Premier League club Liverpool is reportedly planning to snatch midfielder Arda Turan from Barcelona when the winter transfer window opens in January.

Turan has not secured a regular starting place in Barça head coach Luis Enrique's system since he made his Barcelona debut in January.

Goal reported that the Reds are "exploring the possibility" of moving the 29-year-old Turkey international to the Anfield in midseason to help the team in their Premier League title bid this term.

Liverpool is also looking for someone to fill-in for winger Sadio Mane when he temporarily leaves the club to participate in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations.

Turan was signed by Barça from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2015 for $44 million but had to wait for Barcelona's transfer ban to pass before he could play.

He has been given a lot of minutes by Enrique but has not been granted a regular starting spot considering the star-studded roster the Catalan giants have at the moment.

In the frontline, Turan has been a primary backup for the superstar attacking trio of Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez, and Neymar. When it comes to the midfield, he is behind in the pecking order to team captain Andres Iniesta, Sergio Busquets, and Ivan Rakitic.

With the emergence of young stars Rafinha, Paco Alcacer, Andre Gomes, Sergi Roberto, and Denis Suárez it looks like Turan's future as a starter in Camp Nou is still uncertain.

Meanwhile, the Daily Star indicated that Liverpool's planned move for Turan is "in response" to latest rumors that Barça is also targeting their prized winger Brazilian Philippe Coutinho in the upcoming winter window.

Coutinho is considered as one of the best wingers in England right now with his ability to generate chances not only for himself but for his teammates as well.

He is an archetypal Brazilian number 10 playmaker and would be best positioned behind Suárez in Enrique's 4-3-3 formation.
