French international Raphael Varane has doused off transfer rumors linking him to Manchester United after he recently revealed his intention to retire as a Real Madrid player.

The 23-year-old Varane began his senior career with Ligue 2 club RC Lens in 2010 when he was only 17 years old and surprisingly debuted in the team's starting lineup at that time. He caught the attention of then Real head coach Jose Mourinho, who bought him for $10.5 million in the summer of 2011.

He had been with Los Blancos since then as he is playing in his sixth season at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, appearing in 164 games in all competitions and scoring eight goals mainly as a defender.

Mourinho, who is now the manager of United, is rumored to be interested in re-uniting with his former player in England as the Red Devils lack backfield depth with several injuries to key defenders at the Old Trafford.

The Daily Star indicated that Mourinho could make another offer to Real for Varane this January after failing to snatch him away from Spain during the recent summer transfer window.

However, the 6-foot-3 center back is keen on staying in Madrid even if his old boss is calling him out, saying that he plans to remain with the club until the end of his career, according to the Mirror.

"Right now, I would like to stay at Real Madrid until the end of my career," Varane told reporters during a recent interview. "Things are going very fast in this industry, but why would I not want to retire at Madrid? There is no reason for me to leave."

Varane then said that he is "feeling very well" with the Spanish capital city squad, although he admits that no one can "predict what the future looks like." He insisted that he cannot see himself transferring to another club.

"I want to continue to be a first-team regular here at Madrid. That is my long-term goal," Varane added.
