Denmark's Jan O Jorgensen knocks over China's highest ranked male shuttler Chen Long in the championship stage of the BWF Thaihot China Open to claim the prestigious title in Fuzhou on Sunday.

Jorgensen spoiled the supposed-to-be glorious return of the current world No. 2 Chinese player from the badminton action following his successful golden Olympic campaign in Rio last August. The USD 700,000 World Superseries event was Chen's first tournament since winning the gold medal in the last quadrennial sporting event and was on a target of securing his fourth China Open crown.

According to the tournament result of the official website of the BWF, the former European champion scored an impressive 22-20, 21-13 straight-set victory over the event's second-top seeded player. Jorgensen had a tough time claiming the opening set but won the following game with ease and wrapped up the title match in just 46 minutes.

The victory also marks Jorgensen's only second win against Chen in their 11 official meetings since 2010, with the BCA Indonesian Open two years ago was the other occasion wherein the 28-year-old Aalborg native had prevailed over the elite Chinese badminton player.

Jorgensen's newly won title will surely boost his present world rankings when the BWF releases its weekly world ranking update. He is currently ranked No. 6 in the world and just 3,736 ranking points behind the third-ranking Lin Dan of China.

The Fuzhou badminton event ended the title drought of Jorgensen for this year. Basing from the report of NDTV Sports, the 2015 World Championships bronze medalist's first individual trophy of the season comes after he helped the national squad of Denmark to the country's first ever Thomas Cup team title that was held in Kunshan, China last May.

This year, Jorgensen competed in different top tournaments but was not so fortunate to land a title. He was the runner-up in the recent Japan and Indonesia Open while finished the Malaysia and German Open as a semifinalist.
