Jan O Jorgensen, the newly crowned men's singles champion of the recently ended China Open has said that despite failing to secure any title at their home tournament for the first time, Chinese shuttlers were still a major force to reckon with in badminton.

The 2014 World Championships winner got the better of China's reigning Olympic Games champion Chen Long in the final round of the three-decade-old badminton tournament to become the first non-Asian player to win the event.

Jorgensen prevented Long from claiming his fourth China Open title in two straight sets. According to the official BWF website, the Dane registered his second victory over the elite Chinese player in 11 attempts since 2010.

"Many top Chinese players went to Rio and still did well in the Olympics," Jorgensen said.

"The China Open was my first major victory for more than two years and I won it after beating the Olympic champion. That's why I was so happy as I was able to take the chance in Fuzhou." The current world No. 6 continued.

In a South China Morning Post, the Danish badminton ace also said the emergence of countries such as Indonesia, Japan, India, and Malaysia in the sport is putting pressure on Chinese players.

China Open was Jorgensen's first individual title of the season, ending his title drought for the year.

This year, Jorgensen took part in different top badminton competitions but could not win a title.
