Former Manchester City boss Sven Goran Eriksson has been chosen to be the next manager of the China League One club Shenzhen FC after stepping down as the Shanghai SIPG's bench boss in the Chinese Super League last month.

According to the report by the South China Morning Post, Eriksson will be replacing the Dutch football legend Clarence Seedorf as the International Arms' new coach. Shenzhen FC recently finished ninth in the second-tier league of China.

The China League One club announced Eriksson's appointment on social media, saying the club expected the veteran football manager's "rich coaching experience, advanced football philosophy, and intimate knowledge of Chinese football" to lead the two-time Chinese Super League Cup runner up squad to a new era of success.

Shenzhen will be the third Chinese outfit that the seasoned 68-year-old Swede football coach will be managing since his arrival in the mainland in 2013. In June 2013, Eriksson joined the CSL side of the Guangzhou R&F before moving to the side of the Red Eagles on November of 2014.

Eriksson led Shanghai to a runner up finish in the CSL season of the year 2015 and assured the club with a guaranteed seat in the upcoming 2017 AFC Champions League after placing third in the recently concluded 2016 season of the CSL.

However, the 2000 Serie A Coach of the Year winner was criticized by single tactical play and his failure to give playing opportunity to the outfit's young talents throughout his tenure at the Shanghai Stadium-homed CSL club. According to BBC, Eriksson was replaced by the 39-year-old Portuguese coach Andre Villas-Boas, who was a former manager of the Premier League sides Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.

The Southern Guangdong-based club will be Eriksson's first team in the China League One. The former England boss will have the major task of leading Shenzhen to promotion to the country's top flight, the CSL.
