New reports have recently surfaced claiming that Apple is planning to use an AMOLED display panel for its iPhone 8 flagship smartphone. What is interesting about this is that Apple is rumored to be in negotiations with Samsung to be its exclusive AMOLED panel supplier.

Reports claimed that Apple is planning to release a 5.8-inch iPhone model equipped with an AMOLED panel. On the other hand, the 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch iPhone models will continue to use LCD panels.

Tech analysts said that the decision to equip only the bigger iPhone models with an AMOLED display is because AMOLED panels are extremely hard to produce. Some estimates put manufacturing of about 20 million display per month at most.

According to Digitimes, the possibility of Apple using Samsung-made AMOLED panels for its iPhone device is backed up by a new supply chain report. Moreover, the report stated that Apple is planning to release the three new iPhone models in the second half of 2017 with a global shipment target of 60 to 70 million units.

Japanese manufacturer Nissha Printing will supply Apple with touch sensors for AMOLED panels. On the other hand, AMOLED display panels will be provided by either Samsung Display, TPK Holding, or General Interface Solution.

Supply chain makers of the said materials are expected to begin production in March 2017 and will scale up their output by May. Several rumors about the new iPhone models have surfaced lately. According to 9to5Mac, some claimed that Apple is planning to adopt the dual-camera configuration for the iPhone 6 Plus model.
