Automaker Fiat Chrysler and tech giant Google are establishing a partnership in order to further enhance the development of self-driving cars. The two companies are also planning to push the development of car information systems.
Fiat Chrysler and Google announced on Monday that both firms will unveil their latest development in terms of Android-based infotainment system called Uconnect, and they plan to release it at the 2017 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, which is expected to open its doors on Jan. 5.

Presently, many new car models' infotainment system is usually compatible with either Apple Car Play or Android Auto. This setting usually gives car owners limited access to important apps such as maps and contacts, which are installed on their smartphones. However, the all-new Uconnect will allow users to customize their suite of apps in order to cater their driving style.
With Uconnect, Fiat Chrysler and Google are expecting to further expand the smartphone connectivity and functionality within the car. Uconnect, which is powered by the latest version of Android 7.0 Nougat, will offer access to a wider set of apps.
In a statement acquired by Tech Crunch, Google Director of Android Engineering Patrick Brady said, "Google is committed to building Android as a turn-key automotive platform that integrates deeply with the vehicle in a safe and seamless way."
According to USA Today, Google and Fiat Chrysler have been working together for at least eight months in the development of autonomous car. In fact, Fiat Chrysler provided 100 Chrysler Pacifica minivans to Google's autonomous car division Waymo in December.
