SpaceX recently said that the company is finalizing its report regarding the explosion of its Falcon 9 rocket while being tested in September 2016. SpaceX added that the investigation has determined the likely cause of the explosion and that the company has already devised a workaround in order to prevent such chemical reaction to occur in the future. Now that everything is clear, SpaceX is expecting to launch its new rocket by Jan. 8.

The new rocket that SpaceX is planning to launch will carry the Iridium satellites into space. Instead of the launch pad in Cape Canaveral in Florida, SpaceX is planning to launch the rocket carrying 10 satellites on a leased Launchpad in Vandenberg Air Force Base located in California, and the company is hoping to complete all necessary renovations on the damaged launch pad within this month.

In a statement released by SpaceX on Monday, the company said that the likely cause of the explosion in September is "a large breach in the cryogenic helium system of the second stage liquid oxygen tank."

The problem appeared to have started near the liquid oxygen tank on the second stage of the two-stage Falcon 9 rocket. Within seconds, the tank was in flames and what followed is the destruction of the entire rocket, including the payload of communications satellite worth $200 million, according to The New York Times. The destroyed Iridium satellites were supposed to provide communications boost for companies like Facebook, which is planning to expand its internet services in the African region.
