Guangdong Southern Tigers Outlast Fujian Sturgeons in Overtime, Join Shanghai Sharks on the Top of CBA’s Team Standing

The team of Guangdong Southern Tigers continued to soar high in the 22nd season of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) as they nosed out the 16th-ranked Fujian Strurgeons with a 123-113 overtime triumph in the league's 25th round on Wednesday night.

According to EuroBasket, former NBA player Donald Sloan had a team-high 35 points including four three-pointers to lead the Southern Tigers to another victorious game. The 28-year-old veteran American guard went on a 7-13 shooting from the two-point range and made 9-10 from the free throw line in 39 minutes of playing time.
Two-time NBA All-Star Carlos Boozer finished the match with another double-double game production of 18 markers and game-high 15 boards, while local talent JunFei Ren added with 15points for the victors, who forced the Sturgeons to commit 17 turnovers during the contest.
The Southern Tigers have three more Chinese players who scored in double figures with Zhou Peng, Zhao Rui, and Zhu FangYu chipping in with 11 points each.
American import Dwight Buycks paced Fujian with game-high 41 points, and NBA recruit Wang Zhelin had 19 points and 14 rebounds.
With the victory, the Southern Tigers now improved to a better 21-4 win-loss record and currently tied with the league leading team of Shanghai Sharks on the top of the team standing. It was also the second straight win of Guangdong since losing to the team of the Liaoning Flying Leopards in the 23rd round of the league last Dec. 30.
Basing from the match result in NowGoal, the winning team established an early 17-point lead in the first 12 minutes of the contest, but it was trimmed down to just seven points in the second quarter, 63-56.
In the second half of the match, the Sturgeons managed to produce 53 points while limiting Guangdong to just 46. Sloan sent the game to an overtime after getting fouled and made both of his two charity shots.
In the extra five minutes of the game, the Southern Tigers stormed Fujian with a 14-4 run and walked away with the victory.
