Here's how it went down.

The quirky actress, who also won her first Golden Globe at the much-awaited controversial award show for her lead role in La La Land, was trying to give her director Damien Chazelle a hug after he was named the winner for Best Original Screenplay.

What could go wrong, right? A lot, apparently, especially if someone else was trying to come in for a hug or if the receiver is unaware of your offered affection.

Stone did not realize that as she hugged Chazelle, he has already been hugging his girlfriend, Olivia Hamilton, and even went for a kiss. Stone realized what had happened as she pulled away and seemingly said, "That was weird!" as she apologized to the surprised couple.

Super awkward right? For future reference, that is not how you hug.

Fortunately, she handled the moment well with her lovable realness and that adorable, embarrassed grin. And unfortunately, the Internet won't let her forget it anytime soon. But then again, it is definitely not enough to bring her down from cloud nine after winning Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy that night.

Gotta love award shows. With all the celebrities and live cameras rolling, there are always going to be unforgettable incidents like these!
