Chinese Basketball Association: Guangdong Southern Tigers Rout Qingdao Eagles on Yi Jianlian’s Return

After suffering two straight losses in their previous matches of the regular season, Guangdong Southern Tigers finally snapped their recent skid at the expense of the Qingdao Eagles with a 125-96 win in the last game of the 28th round of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) on Monday night.

The Southern Tigers, who entered the match with a 1-2 win-loss card in their last three games, was led by local talent Zhou Peng with a 33-point production. According to EuroBasket, the veteran Chinese forward went on a 10-16 shooting from the two-point range, 3-5 from the three-point marker and 4-5 from the foul line.
Two-time NBA All-Star player Carlos Boozer registered another double-double game performance of 26 points and 14 rebounds, while CBA's four-time Domestic MVP Yi Jianlian, who returned back to action after missing five games for the Southern Tigers, scored 16 points and pulled down 13 rebounds.
American import Donald Sloan contributed with 14 markers, while Chinese players Gao Shang and Ren JunFei chipped in a combined 22 points for the winning team, which posted a team-combined five blocked shots during the game.
The Southern Tigers outrebounded the opposing team with a 53-34 advantage and outplayed the Eagles with a 26-11 edge in the assists category. The winners also have 11 steals and forced their opponent to commit 13 turnovers.
Greek center Loukas Mavrokefalidis paced Qingdao with 33 points and 14 rebounds, while Dominique Jones finished the game with 24 markers.
Basing from the match result in NowGoal, the Southern Tigers kicked off the opening period with a 30-16 run and capped the first half of the match leading with a 13-point margin, 60-47.
The Eagles cut down Guangdong's lead to 10 in the third period after staging a 32-29 run. However, the Southern Tigers immediately extinguished Qingdao's rally as they stormed the losing with another 36-17 run in the final 12 minutes of the ballgame to securely seal the victory.
The lowly team of the Bayi Rockets will be the Southern Tigers' next game assignment on Wednesday.
