Chinese Super League club Tianjin Quanjian FC is reportedly targeting Leeds United striker Chris Wood after the team's recent unsuccessful attempt to sign Chelsea forward Diego Costa.

The 25-year-old Wood, who also plays for the New Zealand national team, is considered to be one of the most prolific goalscorers in the Football League Championship at the moment. This season, he has scored 19 goals in a total of 30 appearances in all competitions for the second-tier English squad.

Wood was signed by the Whites in the summer of 2015 from English Premier League club Leicester City on a four-year contract for an undisclosed transfer fee. In his first season at the Elland Road, the former West Brom striker netted 13 goals in 37 games in all competitions under then head coach Steve Evans.

With his current impressive goalscoring form, the 6-foot-3 Auckland native has "caught the attention" of Tianjin Quanjian and the CSL squad is reportedly set to submit an offer to United, The Sun reported.

Quanjian, last season's China League One champions, missed out on signing Costa earlier this month as the Blues "blocked" a massive offer from the newly-promoted side.

Chelsea has reportedly stated that they would be willing to sell Costa this summer after the current season has ended, but Quanjian officials insisted that they need another player before the 2017 China top-flight season begins in March.

Quanjian signed Belgian midfielder Axel Witsel from Russian side Zenit Saint Petersburg earlier this month in a $373,000-a-week deal, the Daily Express reported. The club now only two foreign players in Witsel and Brazilian forward Geuvanio as they prepare for the start of the new China top-flight season in March.

The Chinese Football Association has decreased the limit of non-Asian foreign players in the Chinese Super League to only three per squad from the previous four. There are reports that the ruling has disrupted the CSL teams' winter transfer window plans as a lot of potential moves for European players were canceled.
