The next-gen Moto X 2014 was recently launched while the Mi4 was already made available in August. Both devices have the same 2.5 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 Krait 400 processor. However, the Moto X has a 2GB of RAM while the Xiaomi Mi4 features 3GB of RAM.

The Xiaomi Mi4 runs on Android 4.4.3 KitKat with MIUI 6 UI while the Moto X Gen 2 runs on Android 4.4.4 KitKat upgradable to Android 5.0 L. Moto X 2014 also has 16GB and 32GB in-built storage variants while the Mi4 offers 16GB and 64GB of internal memory capacities. Both handsets do not have microSD card support for expansion.

The Moto X 2014 comes with a 5.2-inch AMOLED display with 1,080 x 1,920 pixels resolution. On the other hand, the Xiaomi Mi4 features a 5-inch Sharp/JDI OGS full lamination display with the same aforementioned pixels resolution. The Mi4 has 441 ppi pixel density while the Moto X 2014 has 424 ppi.

The 2014 Moto X exterior looks like the original 2013 Moto X except that the new Moto X has an aluminum frame as a replacement to its predecessor's plastic frame. The device's back and front panels can be customized and disintegrated through the Motorola Moto Maker site. Meanwhile, the Xiaomi Mi4 looks like the iPhone with its stainless steel band.

The Xiaomi Mi4 and Motorola Moto X 2014 both have a 13 megapixel rear camera with dual-LED flash. While the Mi4 sports an 8 megapixel front camera, the Moto X only has a 2 megapixel front camera. The 2014 Moto X has a Li-ion 2300 mAh battery unit while the Xiaomi Mi4 has a Li-ion 3080 mAh battery capacity. The Mi4 costs $399 while the Moto X 2014 is sold at $500.
