One of the students taken by the Nigerian Islamic extremists in April was found wandering through a village in what is the first confirmed escape of any of the kidnapped girls, Nigerian police reported Thursday.
Following the escape of the girl, opposing reports surfaced; some say that the girl escaped, while others claim she was freed and was dropped off by the insurgents.

In a statement released by Nigerian police spokesman Emmanuel Ojukwu, he said a 20-year-old girl who was among the kidnapped Chibok girls was dropped off by suspected militant members at Mubi region in Adamawa state at around 5 p.m. on Sept. 24.
In addition Ojukwu saidthe girl is in a stable condition and is being examined medically.
"The police spokesman added that, so far, what they know is that the girl was one of the Chibok girls," he said, adding that they will release additional details soon.
The girl was found wandering in the fields of Hong district near Borno state, locals said.
Musa Sule, a local farmer, said nobody knew how the girl came to the place. The girl was either released or she escaped, and must have been running for days before she reached their region, the farmer speculated.
A known Boko Haram camp was situated about 75 miles from where the girl was found, according to local residents and authorities.
A member of the "Abuja Family," a group who rallied in Abuja for the release of the kidnapped girls, visited the girl.
In an interview with the Guardian, the member said the girl appeared to be in a traumatized state and was incoherent. Based on information hey have gathered so far, the girl may have fled or was freed because she was becoming a burden.
Hundreds of girls, women and boys were kidnapped by the Boko Haram, but what made it to a worldwide news was when they took over 270 girls from the dormitory of Chibok secondary school.
The mass kidnapping started a global campaign for the freedom of the kidnap victims.
About 50 girls were able to flee from the scene of the abduction, and at present, there are still about 219 who remain missing.
