"Gone Girl", starring Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike, fell a little behind The Conjuring spin-off "Annabelle" during the films' debut box office sales. The latter won US$2 million more than the Ben Affleck drama.
The drama film "Gone Girl" earned US$13.2 million, a bit short compared to the US$15.5 million earned by the spin-off Annabelle. However, it is expected to still outdo "Annabelle" and win this weekend with a projected US$36 million or more.

The film by 20th Century Fox and New Regency is an R-rated film adaptation of Gilian Flynn's popular novel. The adaptation was directed by David Fincher, whose top opening in the box office was "Panic Room", earning US$30.1 million on its opening back in 2002.
Other films by Fincher include the popular "The Social Network" with Jesse Eisenberg, which opened with US$22.5 million and earned US$95 million domestically. Fincher also directed "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button", starring Brad Pitt, which made US$26.9 million on its opening and later raking up US$127.5 million domestically.
New Line and Warner Bros, who made "Annabelle" possible, are rejoicing as the said film only cost US$7 million to make. The film's projected earnings over the weekend would be US$34 million.
"Annabelle" received a B Cinemascore, which is pretty high since most horror films just get a C. "Gone Girl" also received the same B Cinemascore.
"Gone Girl" also stars Tyler Perry and Neil Patrick Harris while the spin-off "Annabelle" has Alfre Woodard and Annabelle Wallis. The spin-off is directed by John R. Leonetti.
