HTC Desire EYE vs. iPhone 6

HTC Desire Eye vs iPhone 6

The HTC Desire EYE has caught a lot of attention in the past few weeks, with its dual-13MP camera, it has been pegged against a lot of top-end Android phones. But how does it stack up against Apple's current flagship?

Like most Android phones, the EYE wins on the specifications. Apple is running the A8 chip at a lower clock speed, when compared to the Snapdragon 801, and unless Apple has added double the RAM to the iPhone 6, it is still behind on that front.

The A8 chip does have 64-bit technology and Apple has other sensors the HTC Desire EYE does not, such as Touch iD and barometer. Performance is about even on both sides, even if on the specs sheet the HTC Desire EYE looks like the victor.

The HTC Desire EYE wins on display resolution, with a full HD 1920 x 1080 LCD panel. The iPhone 6, by comparison, has a 1334 x 750 IPS LCD panel, just a little over 720p. Apple makes up for this with an assortment of updates to the display, but the edge still goes to HTC.

The EYE's camera has a 13MP BSI sensor in the back and the same on the front. Both with dual-LED flash. These are clear winners on the specs sheet, but in practice Apple's iPhone 6 produces incredible photos, thanks to the software optimization.

The HTC Desire EYE has a 2400mAh battery, which should give at least seven hours screen-time. The iPhone 6 only manages five and a half hours screen-time. Both have NFC, Bluetooth 4.0 and Nano SIM, but Apple edges ahead with WiFi ac included.

Design is a big factor to take into account, of course, this is more personal preference than specs. The iPhone 6 is built with anodized aluminum, while the HTC Desire EYE is double shot plastic, with red or blue edges - both look like quality devices.

Deciding which is the better phone is a hard one to call. The HTC Desire EYE offers a good amount more than the iPhone 6 in terms of raw specs, but the overall edge has to go the iPhone 6, if only slightly.
