Hundreds and thousands of hacked nude photos and videos sent through Snapchat could be uploaded over the weekend, hackers have threatened.

Several explicit images shared using Snapchat, a messaging service where the users can send photos that will self-delete after a couple of seconds, have reportedly been shared online, and the hackers have warned that they will be posting more.

According to one poster, the full leak of the hacked photos and videos will take place on October 12, and the leak will be available in every searchable database, and will reportedly be linked to the users Snapchat ID.

Blogger Kenny White, who said the leak will be "one pf the biggest security reaches of online profiles," was one of the first few people who saw the hacker's threat.

White said it could be compared to the recent celebrity nude photo leaks, but this time, multiply the numbers by 200,000, " and now you have the Snappening."

Users who used a third party service in accessing Snapchat, and did not directly use the Snapchat app, has had their photo messages intercepted.

Most Snapchat users are between ages 13 and 17, and many are worried that majority of the photos and videos are of teens and children.

However, Snapchat is claiming that its servers were "never breached," adding that the company closely monitors Google Play and the App store for any illegal third-party apps and confirmed that Snapchat itself is not responsible for the incident.

But security analysts and researchers urge Snapchat to be more responsible on the storage of its user's data.

Security specialist Mark James, of ESET, said it seemed harsh for the company to just turn around and say that its the fault of the users.

James added that when users utilize the app, they were under the impression that they could do it safely. He urged the company to "crack down on people's ability" to obtain private information using the application's data.
