Nexus 6 Release Date: Android Licorice to Power Upcoming Nexus Priced at $450

The Nexus 5 was released in 2013 and continues Samsung's pattern of a pure Android version, high specs and low prices. This year, people have long been anticipating Google's upcoming iteration of the Nexus device. Nexus 6 or Nexus X, codenamed Shamu, is rumored to be unveiled very soon.

Several days before the official launch, reports suggest that the Nexus 6 will be powered by Android 5.0 or Licorice out of the box on its release date. Because of this, the device will have a marked up price.

Android Licorice is the Android L OS that Google introduced in June during its annual I/O Developers Conference 2014 edition. According to reports, Android Licorice was derived from Giovanni Calabrese directly. Calabrese was commissioned by Google to design the huge Android sculpture displayed at the company's California headquarters.

Calabrese also provided hints to what the new Android sugary name would be. In his recent Google+ post, Calabrese said it is not Lollipop, Lemon Meringue Pie or Lion. He explicitly implied Licorice will be the new name by saying he never like Licorice but there are some great flavors out there.

Meanwhile, the Nexus 6 will likely be a repurposed second-gen Moto X. The Nexus 6 will feature a 5.9-inch display with 2560 x 1440 QHD display, a 2.7 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 805 with 3 GB of RAM, 32 GB of in-built storage, 13 MP rear camera with OIS capability and 2.1 MP front camera, aluminum casing and 3200 mAh battery.

Reports say the Nexus 6 will cost at least $450 and its release date on the Google Play Store will likely be on Nov. 1 to 3.
