In a recent interview with online gaming media company, Stevivor, co-founder of Sledghammer Games, Michael Condrey, was asked whether or not Advanced Warfare would support dedicated servers.
"We've got some announcements coming. Yes, we will be supporting dedicated servers and there will be announcements soon on which providers and platforms. I can't answer just yet, but you can let your community know that it's coming," he answered.
Dedicated servers are considered by many gamers to be the best option when experiencing online gameplay. They allow users to connect to the server closest to their location, instead of relying on a peer-to-peer Internet connection.
The result is a more balanced experience with much less lagging and no hosting advantages. With new features like the exoskeleton capable of boost jumping, dodging and sliding, online gameplay needs to be as smooth as possible, and Sledgehammer feels dedicated servers are the way to go.
The Battlefield franchise has been using dedicated servers for years now. Sledgehammer Games then followed suit with Call of Duty Ghosts being the first game of the franchise to support dedicated servers.
Although dedicated servers are nothing new for PC users, it may be a new concept to console owners. However, it appears this feature is being utilized more and more and could soon become a necessity for online gaming.
"Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare" will be released worldwide on Nov. 4. Sledgehammer Games also has the Day Zero Edition available for preorder, which gives users the game a whole 24-hours before it's officially released.
