J.K. Rowling Releases New Harry Potter Story For Halloween

Harry Potter author, J.K. Rowling, has announced Friday the release of a new backstory on the demented Dolores Jane Umbridge in time for trick-and-treating this Halloween.

The 1,700-word tale delves mostly on the life of the Ministry of Magic Undersecretary and the one-time headmistress of Hogwarts. The story is slated for online publication on the Harry Potter website, the Pottermore.com.

"Umbridge is not only one of the most malicious Potter characters, she is the only person other than Lord Voldemort to leave a permanent physical scar on Harry," read the statement on Pottermore.com. This is in reference to the detention the young wizard endured during Professor Umbridge's brief stint as High Inquisitor at the Hogwarts.

The website also promises to give readers Rowling's first-person thoughts and reflections about the abominable character as well as new details on how Umbridge entered Potter's magical life.

Potter's nemesis was first introduced in "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" and later reappeared on the on-screen adaptation of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows".

Rowling has periodically teased Harry Potter fans with spin-off tales that update readers of the characters' whereabouts.

In July, Rowling treated fans with a tale featuring Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger all grown up attending a Quidditch World Cup game.

And in August, fans went gaga over the never-before-heard tale of 'Singing Sorceress' Celestina Warbeck, the half-muggle, half-wizard singing sensation of the wizarding world. She was mentioned in three Harry Potter books, but never made it on-screen, and is noted as Ron's mom's favorite singer.

While Rowling has her hands full with penning additions to the Harry Potter world, she is also working on two other projects: a rumored romance novel and the screenplay for the Harry Potter spin-off movie, the "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them".

She has, however, denied reports of publishing a romantic novel this week, saying that while she is already half-way through her current book, it is not in the least a romantic one.
