Retailers Blocking Apple Pay Due To MCX Contracts

Retailers have been turning off NFC machines in preparation for Apple Pay, due to many of these retailers in contracts with the Merchant Customer Exchange, developers of CurrentC.
Retailers are pushing back the tide of Apple Pay users by removing NFC services from their stores. CVS and Rite-Aid both have been in hot water over internal messages, which show that they look to stop Apple's payment service from being used.
Pharmacy chains aren't the only ones removing or not interested in Apple Pay. Walmart, Best Buy, GAP, Sears and other stores have joined a consortium to push Merchant Customer Exchange (MCX) CurrentC service across the U.S.

Like ISIS for carriers, CurrentC offers little compared to Apple Pay and other NFC payment options. It is not currently available in any stores, with a launch date sometime in 2015, and tech experts are already picking the service apart.
It looks like even if these retailers want out of CurrentC, they're going to have to live with it for three years. Contracts with retailers have three years working with MCX, and a $500,000 investment to get the service up and running.
CurrentC offers zero payment to the credit/debit card manufacturer, allowing retailers to offer cheaper prices. Normally, credit/debit cards take 2-3 percent of every transaction. Apple Pay would add 0.15 percent to that transaction fee, and some other NFC providers want even more.
This is why the retailers want the new service in place, but in truth it is unlikely to ever kick off, unless retailers push the service hard. QR codes and scanning have never been reliable ways to pay for things, and if that's not enough CurrentC collects a lot of data on the user, while Apple Pay and other services collects and shows minimal customer data to the store.
Some retailers have said they are interested in Apple Pay, but anyone who is vying for CurrentC will not announce anything until at least 2016, when their contracts with MCX end.
